From tiny fryer to big dreams... and bigger waistbands

Like all great ideas, this one started with food cravings. it was lockdown, the sun was shining (for once), and all I could think was, 'You know what would be amazing right now? A thick, ice cold milkshake... then my brain did what it does best, thought about what I could eat with that milkshake. The answer? Donuts. Obviously!
So, I got to work. A few weeks (and some very questionable donut attempts) later, I had my own recipe, a tiny pan that could only fry three at a time, and a squad of highly skilled taste testers, aka my friends and family, who suddenly became very available whenever free donuts were mentioned.
Fast forward a little, I'd upgraded to a fryer and a mixer, and before I knew it, I was stopping orders at 40 boxes a day just to keep up.
Then came the big moment, a real life donut shop. We found the perfect building and armed with pure determination, very little sleep and a lot of coffee, we built the whole thing ourselves. Blood, sweat, tears and probably some stray donut batter went into that shop, but we did it.
Fast forward almost four years, and we're still growing, introducing pizza donuts, savoury donuts, sweet bakes, events, weddings and even bigger plans for the future.
But despite all that growth, one thing has stayed the same: I'm still using my same old trusty mixer and my beloved fryer (which, to this day, can only fit 15 donuts at a time). Some people upgrade their equipment - I like to think mine is a lucky charm.
Oh, and before you go, one of the most common questions we get is: 'Where does the name The DuffNuts Co come from?' Well, when I was little, my mum always called donuts "DuffNuts". No reason, no explanation just a classic mum-ism that made absolutely no sense but somehow stuck.
So, when it came to naming my donut and coffee shop, what else could I call it? Turns out, mums are always right (but lets keep that between us, yeah?)
